Room 7's Overall Flag Vote

Fifteen students chose the original flag as their favourite. They like the flag just the way it is. We obviously don't like change in Room 7. The Silver Fern behind the red, white and blue background was chosen by eight people. This was the popular flag choice against the other flag designs but when it is up against the original flag, it is not a winner.

Room 7's Favourite New Zealand Flag Design

The favourite flag was the red, white and blue silver fern. Sixteen people chose the red, white and blue silver fern.
The least favourite flag was red peak. Only one person in the class chose red peak.
I think the red, white and blue silver fern flag was the most popular because it has the exact same colours as the original flag. This flag has the Southern Cross on it which is the same design as the original flag.

The Chopsticks Challenge: Measuring the number of centimetres from where the sweets were dropped

This graph shows the numbers of centimetres from where the starting bowl was and where the sweets were dropped. We used chop sticks to carry each sweet from one bowl to the other bowl. The bowls were measured 1 metre apart. Ta'ani and Joseph's sweets were the closest to the bowls. Sky's sweet was 22cm from the starting spot. Her's was the furthest sweet away. Shailah, Vahoi and Joseph's sweets had a similar measurement. The rest of the class did not drop their sweets. The winegums were the easiest sweets to carry on the chop sticks because they were not slippery and were thick round the outside. The pebbles were slippery because they were not the same thickness all the way round. The pebbles were thicker / fatter in the middle and thinner round the outside.

4 x 5 = 20

This is my poster on using multiplication arrays. Today I have been learning about the multiplication symbol. When I get given a problem like this I need to count the rows across and then count the column down. Then I multiply the numbers together to get the answer.

Understanding the x symbol

Today as a rich task in Maths I learnt what the x symbol means. The times symbol means... If I was given an array to solve I would need to count the rows across and then the columns down to work out my answer.  4 x 4 = 16

Structure of a Recount

Today we have been learning about what a recount is. A recount is when you retell / describe past events. We have recounts to explain what happened during the experience. I learnt that a recount must have: a Hook to capture audience interest levels, an Orientation which covers: When, Why, What, Who, Where and How, and a summary which sums up how you felt about the experience. A recount is always written in past tense.

Tai's Argument on Homework

This is Tai's scaffold on Should we have homework. He has been given a plan to help him construct his ideas.

Body of text
Introduction
State what you are arguing about
State your opinion
For or Against
Homework is an after school task for students. It may consist of maths, reading, spelling, writing and inquiry tasks.
My Argument is should we have homework? I am for having homework because it makes you smarter by the minute. It helps you to learn lots of things you don’t know.
Reason 1
Smart
Supportive details
tests

My first reason is you get smarter by doing your homework every day. You can get smarter by answering timetables (iKan test questions within  seconds). Homework also helps you read much faster. If you’ve got your answers wrong you might have to do it again because you didn’t do it properly or weren’t paying attention.
Reason 2
stops you from learning at home if you didn’t have any homework
Could get boring if I watched TV all the time

Supportive details

Sometimes television can be a real distraction for students up and down the country.
If you watch a TV programme it might be boring and it would stop you from learning and doing your homework.
TV wastes your time from doing your homework.
TV makes you lazy and could be fat, also you would stay in bed all day. If you do homework you're brain will get more exercise and you will learn something new.
At home I go to my aunt's house to do my maths on her laptop computer.
Reason 3
People can help you

Supportive details
Mum
Dad
Friends
Parents can  learn and take an interest in your school work. Parents understand what you are learning about
Homework brings families together.
If you need help you could ask any of your family members or friends to come and help you. Parents might learn something from your homework as well. Parents will learn what you're learning about in class, and they might do your homework with you and help you if you need help.
Also parents could think your homework is interesting and they would help you each day.
Homework brings teamwork together and you can solve problems together with your friends. It allows you to talk together and to share ideas.

Therefore I think there should be homework for all students so they can be prepared for tests every day and that parents can assist their children the best way they can with their learning.

My first blog post

This is my first blog post. I am very excited to have a blog.
When I am on my blog, I keep safe by not putting up silly pictures of myself, don't give out personal information out such as my street address, my full name, my phone number and anything that I don't want the world to know.

What's in the classes (Room 7's) lunchboxes?

In Room 7, potato chips were the most popular lunch box food. There were 21 packets of chips in the class. This was way too high. The second favourite food item was fruit. There were 20 pieces of fruit on this day. Miss Paton had five pieces of fruit this day. If Miss Paton didn't have the fruit we would look bad. The jelly was the least popular food item. Sandwiches were reasonably popular, however packet food seemed to be the highest in the class.

What's in my lunchbox? Graphs

This was my lunch taken on Wednesday July 22nd. As you can see I had fruit this day. I had five pieces of fruit, one Muesli Bar and a Le Snak. The Muesli and the Le Snak was the unhealthiest because it had sugar in it and I honestly don't know what else are in these packaged food items. I think I need to have more of a balanced lunch where there is a sandwich (breads and cereals) and to have something from milk and milk products such as yoghurt or a piece of cheese.

Number Houses-Understanding Digit Order

Today I have been learning the order of numbers from ones, tens, hundreds, thousands, tens of thousands and hundreds of thousands.

Place Value using 2 digit numbers

Today I was given a number. I had to make the number using tens and ones blocks and I had to express the number as an equation. I also had to write the number in words.

Thinking Groups problem week 3

Today I was given a word problem. This was the strategy my group came up with. In my group I had Taylor, Marieta, Nyjah and Joseph.

What's in my lunchbox?

This term we have been learning about healthy eating. This pie chart shows the foods that were in my lunch box on Wednesday July 22. I had five pieces of fruit, 1 Le Snak and 1 muesli bar in my lunch box. The food that were missing were sandwiches, yoghurt, cheese and meat

Revising sentences

Today I have been learning about the word DRAFT. DRAFT is like an acrostic poem. Each letter of this word means something in writing. Today we have been focusing on the D. D stands for Delete. In class Miss Paton shared with us a piece of writing in which we had to delete, take out words and change sentences. Here is my piece of writing.

Miss Paton’s copy

Miss Paton has a cat. His name is Oscar. He is a tabby cat. Oscar can be a pain in the neck. He likes to sniff my rubbish bin. He always come to my house wanting food. Oscar likes to fall asleep on my couch. He does not like my laptop computer. He would rather sit on my lap. Oscar would like me to give him the attention.

Cultural Identity Google Map

This map shows the cultures and countries where we are from in Room 6. Most of the students were born in New Zealand but their parents and families are from Overseas countries. We used Google to plot in the countries. I learnt how to insert images and videos onto the map.

Popular pets in Room 5L

The Turtles were the most popular pet in Room 5L. They were popular because they have a hard shell and they have a nice pattern on their backs. Seventeen students chose turtles as their favourite pet. This was closely followed by dogs. 16 students chose dogs as their favourite pet. The least popular pet were birds because they fly away, they create mess through bird seed going on the floor and you cannot cuddle a bird. Only nine students chose birds as their favourite pet.

Juliet's time at the swimming pool

This week Juliet has been learning to write a recount on her time at the swimming pool.

Learning intention

I am learning to write a hook[an exciting beginning] that captures audience intention leaves.

Hurray! as I shouted when I went down the slide, my brother wanted me to go down the slide again but I didn't want to because  when I went down I bumped my head on to the wall because my brother pushed me when i was in front of him.But then I was still happy because  when  I was feeling alright  I wanted to go on the slide again. But then I said to my mum can we just stay for 30 seconds please  and she said yes because I was

Liam's time at the Swimming Pool

This is Liam's writing on his time at the swimming pool.

Learning intention

I am learning to write a hook {an exciting beginning} that capture audience interest levels.

“Wahoo’’, as I went down the hydro slide. My tummy was going to burst in a blink of an eye and it smelled like it was going to vomit. I just bumped my head as I reached to the bottom of the slide with my brother as well. When I made it at the bottom I made a huge splash and my face was all covered with water also my whole body.

My brother says to me “ Come on Liam lets go on the water slide and I said this is fun!!!’’. I zoomed in the tunnel. It was my fun day at the swimming pools and I'll do it again next time.
